On Wednesday we drove down, arriving around dinner time. Thursday we met with staff from Representative Welch's office as well as Senator Sanders and one of his staff members. The purpose of these meetings was to show our representatives in the Senate and House that the Civil Air Patrol is a valuable program, and to encourage them to vote to continue funding. We also had a tremendous highlight later on in the day.
We managed, due to the kindness of Welch's staff, to get a tour of the capitol, and to sit in the gallery of the House of Representatives. On Friday we all went out sight-seeing, and because of the cold temperatures, we visited several museums and did more inside things. We visited the Holocaust Museum, the Air And Space Museum, and some other places.
On Saturday we visited the outdoor things, like the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Korean War Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial, and the Lincoln Memorial, all this before lunch! after lunch we visited the Arlington Cemetery, and then headed back to the hotel to pack. We returned Sunday, arriving around 6:45 PM.
We were extremely busy the entire trip, but here are some photographs. I hope to be able to really do it right one of these days, fifteen minutes for each memorial is just not enough . . .
